UK Pavilion’s International Policy Week held in Shanghai

During October 20th-23rd,2010,  a Foreign policy Event titled  "Shaping Global Debates-- UK and China Deliberate the Future of Foreign Policy " , hosted by the British Embassy and its Shanghai Consulate, was held in Shanghai. The event forms part of the UK pavilion’s International Policy Week and aims to reflect on the changing world order since the economic down-turn and the opportunities it presents for future collaboration.

The forum, co-organised by the Shanghai Institute for International Studies, brought together leading international, economic and security experts from the UK and China’s top think tanks, universities and government bodies.

The forum, chaired by Peter Wilson, Director of Strategy at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, focuses on the following isses: the challenges and opportunities in the post-crises era; improving international governance through the maintenance of an open international economic system; improving international security by countering proliferation and conflict prevention.

British participants who were present at the event were Dr Robin Niblett, Director of Chatham House (the Royal Institute of International Affairs), Professor Michael Clark, Director of the Royal United Service Institute, and Charles Grant, Director for the Centre of European Reform. Chinese attendees came from the China Institute of International Studies; China Arms Control and Disarmament Association; Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and academics from Fudan University.  Liu Fei, Head of the External Relations at the IES was invited to take part in the event.
